I Heart Batman

Master 2 is obsessed with Batman at the moment. He has never seen a Batman movie, cartoon or comic before. It's all because of the Batman Monster Truck. He loves Monster Trucks. Particularly the Batman one. I'm quite proud of him because I am a HUGE Batman fan. I have always loved the Batman films, especially the last three.

When we visited our local quilt shop last week he spotted the Batman fabric. He was in his pram and he told me that he had to hold it. He has been cranky lately as he has a nasty cold, so to keep him happy while I shopped, I let him hold the bolt. This resulted in him not wanting to give it up when I had made my purchase and it was time to leave (much like I don't want to leave certain bolts of fabric there when I leave haha).

I thought about getting some to stash for the I Spy quilt I want to eventually make him but it's quite a large print and it would get lost in small squares. So I told him we would think of something to make with it and get some next time. I was texting my Mum about it later that evening and she suggested I make him a pillowcase with it. Perfect!

I looked up, and found, this tutorial and the next day went back to get the fabric. I chose a nice bright fabric for the cuff.

This week I finished it, along with a pillowcase for my cousin to co-ordinate with her Ballerina's & Bugs quilt.

I think I just might have to make myself one to match :)

A Very Merry HST BOF: Block 1

Because I need yet another WIP, I decided to follow along with Blossom Heart Quilts 'A Very Merry HST BOF'

It's only six blocks to make a mini quilt at the end. A block a fortnight, a small project and a good way to use up my Christmas fabric scraps.

Here is my version of Block 1: Tinsel

Unfortunately I missed the part where it says 'Press seams open and trim your HSTs to 3" square' so my block is actually 12.5" instead of 10". Whoops! I thought I was being so competent not having to trim my HST's. It's ok though, Alyce said that all I have to do is not trim them for the rest of the blocks.

Farrah The Travelling Fat Quarter Stash

I have been absent for a few weeks. Absent from my blog, absent from sewing, absent from my regular everyday life. Sometimes life gives us something that just turns everything upside down and takes us away from our regular routine. It also seems that when this happens, everything else just seems to go wrong along with it. This has been my life for the past two weeks.

Fortunately I had a nice little surprise on Monday in my post office box. It was Farrah, the travelling fat quarter stash. Farrah was organised by the lovely Bronwyn of Stop That Owl. She is 50 fat quarters travelling the country to those who nominated to recieve her. When she arrives you can take out as many fat quarters as you like, and just replace them with the same amount and then send her to the next recipient (who doesn't know she's coming). You can see Bronwyn's blog post about Farrah when she left for her journey here. After doing her rounds of the east coast she certainly looks a bit different now!

I really like what I took out, and already have some plans for it, and I got some good feedback on what I put back in so I'm happy. Looking forward to following Farrah's progress as she nears the end of her journey.

Thanks Bronwyn :)

Wednesday's WIP - Plumb Quilt Top

My favourite quilt book is Scrap Republic by Emily Cier. Hardly surprising seeing as though I just love scrappy quilts.

A little while ago I had cut up all my requirements to make the Plumb Quilt from this wonderful book. A few nights ago I just needed a break from my ongoing projects and wanted to make and finish something. As Gemma from Pretty Bobbins puts it, I needed some instant gratification :)

This is my version of the Plumb quilt.

It's the same pattern as in the book but I didn't stick to the dimensions which means that mine has turned out bigger.

Sunday Stash # 8 (On Monday)

Better late than never I always say!

This week I purchased some Kona fabrics to go with the Summersville charm pack I got last week.

Kiwi, black, red, tangerine, snow and cyan

I always have a look and see what else I can fit in my envelope and I found this pirate fabric on sale. I'm stashing pirate fabric to make a pirate quilt for Master 2. I got half a yard for $2.49.

Wednesday's Work In Progress

Continuing to break in my new machine with some more scrappy improv blocks.

In some of these I have used the black and white fabric I received in the Black & White Fat Quarter Swap

It fits in beautifully. I'm nearly done with these blocks. If my calculations are correct I will only need four more.
